WEkEO Viewer Introduces Time Series Functionality
A major update has been introduced to the WEkEO data viewer, transforming how users interact with and analyse Earth Observation data. The platform now supports time series visualisation, offering a dynamic way to retrieve and display temporal data for selected locations directly from the viewer.
What’s new?
The time series feature is now available for datasets based on the ARCO framework, including:
All Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS) datasets
ERA5 hourly data on single levels from the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S)
- European air quality reanalyses and Global atmospheric composition forecasts from the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS)
This capability will expand over the next year when additional ARCO-based datasets from C3S and CAMS will be integrated. These new datasets will not only be accessible through the WEKEO Viewer but will also fully support the time series feature.
How to use the time series tool
To display a time series:
- Activate the "Points" tool located in the lower-right corner of the WEkEO viewer.
Click on the desired location on the map.
- A map window will appear, displaying time series data for all selected layers.
This intuitive feature provides a deeper layer of insight, enabling users to track changes over time directly from the map interface.
What’s Next?
Looking ahead, several upgrades are planned for future releases, including:
Improved chart visualisations for clearer insights.
Zoom functionality, enabling users to focus on specific time periods.
- The ability to move chart boxes independently of the corresponding pin locations on the map.
Delivering for the needs of WEkEO users
The new time series feature follows the launch of the Copernicus WEkEO Innovation Lab and the release of the EOCanvas serverless function, marking significant steps forward in empowering WEkEO users with advanced tools that facilitate Earth Observation data analysis and foster innovation. The new time series feature is now available not only on the WEkEO platform but also across the Copernicus Arctic Hub and the Copernicus Coastal Hub, ensuring broad accessibility and functionality.
